On Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 12pm till 6pm @ Broadway House for
Continuing Care, located at 298 Broadway Newark, NJ, The MC Red Ribbon
Foundation will be bringing an HIV & AIDS awareness campaign & family
cook out to the Motorcycle Community. This is a day designated to the MC
Community every year to spread HIV & AIDS Awareness. This will
continue to be on a yearly basis. (Rain Date: Sunday, August 10,
2008)
The 1st Annual Campaign was held on Sunday, August 5, 2007 in
Paterson, NJ. 100% of the proceeds from that campaign was given to The Hyacinth
AIDS Foundation located in Paterson, NJ. We were able to raise $4,700.00
and presented them with a check at a Live Televised City Council Meeting in
Paterson, NJ. This campaign also generated several responses from the
public. We had numerous articles written on this campaign in the local
news papers, motorcycle magazines and community news letters. We were able
to get over 200 people tested for HIV & Hepatitis C at the campaign. We also
held a successful Blood Drive for the American Red Cross. In light of such a
great campaign and a positive message being presented to the motorcycle
community and public I was invited by The Hyacinth AIDS Foundation to attend a
dinner in Honor of Governor Jon Corzine.
The
Campaign Entrance is FREE! We will be raising money at the cook out by selling
food and drinks. 100% of the donations received at the cook out will be given to
the Broadway House. This organization helps people in the community living
with HIV & AIDS with Medication, Health care, Living Expenses, Food &
Clothing. They are first and foremost a Live In Facility for people living with
HIV & AIDS.
We
ask that you also bring your families (especially your Teens) out to get some
much needed information regarding this devastating disease that is taking the
black community by storm. We all have someone we know or are related to
that has been affected by this terrible incurable disease. We all have the
power to make big difference in our community. We will have all types of
speakers, dancers, singers, skits, handouts & activities for the day.
There will also be Private HIV
Testing available. There will be Professional counselors also from the
Broadway House on the premises if you just want to find out some information on
a private basis or you just want to talk to someone. There will also be a
Blood Drive to help others. All testing is FREE of Charge and Extremely
Confidential between you and the Broadway House! Neither myself, Committee
Members, The MC Community or anyone participating or other wise involved in this
campaign will have access or be given access to your test results or
conversations you have with any of the counselors at no time!
